Charlie Cent

Sorcha Cotter, Blackwater Community School, checking out the new Saving Stamp Card at our Ballyduff Office. Sorcha's design for Charlie Cent, created while she was a pupil at Ballyduff National School, was chosen from many entries received in a competition run by Tallow Credit Union for national schools in the Common Bond.
Charlie Cent takes over from Sammy Stamp
For many years now our Sammy Stamp Savings Scheme has been a regular part of school life for the children in the schools in the Tallow Area Credit Union Common Bond.
Sammy was introduced to promote and encourage saving among schoolchildren, with great success, to make them aware of how important it is to save for their needs in the future, i.e. presents, school tours, cd's, bikes, new clothes, and holidays etc.
We now wish to introduce Charlie Cent - Sammy's successor. Charlie's design was chosen from the many designs submitted by children in the local schools in a competition run by Tallow Credit Union. The winning design was created by Sorcha Cotter while still a pupil at St. Michael's National School Ballyduff. She is now a secondary school student at Blackwater Community School in Lismore.
Charlie Cent is a new Peel & Stick stamp with the same €0.50 value. He will be making his debut, at the beginning of the new school year in September 2006, when both the new look Charlie Cent Saving Stamp Card and Stamp, will be available in all our local schools.
Charlie Cent Stamps can be purchased in school each week and the children can watch their savings grow, giving them the start that all savers need and the start which all parents want them to have. Stamps may be used to open an account in the Credit Union by the children or to add to an existing account should they already have one. They can also be redeemed for cash at any one of our Credit Union offices.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for their help with the Sammy Stamp Saving Scheme over the years, also their assistance with the launch of Charlie Cent in their schools and we look forward to meeting and working with them again in the coming year.
